What to do with Expiring Temporary Airman Certificates (Government Shutdown Effects)
The has just sent the following communication with instructors for DPEs, Instructors, and Certificate holders:
“Because of the lapse in federal funding and the subsequent furlough of employees at the Airman Registry Branch, you may be contacted by applicants whose temporary airman certificate you issued to them is now approaching expiration. At the time of the government shutdown on December 22, 2018 the Registry was processing certification files received on November 16, 2018. This means that certification files received after that date may not be processed in time for the permanent certificate to arrive prior to the expiration of the temporary. Airman can check to see if their file has been processed and, if necessary, print a temporary authorization for an additional 60 days by following the process described in the attachment. Please provide this information to your applicants if you are contacted because of an expiring temporary certificate. Please note that Examiners are not allowed to re-issue expiring temporary certificates to extend the expiration date.”
